Sorry to post this late; totally forgotten last week!
We started looking at the word ‘alien’ and what it means to us when we first hear it and compared its use in airports where it means ‘someone from another country’, which led the discussion towards certain word choices we make to make an impact and the power relations behind it. After talking about cultural and ethical implications of our word choices and ‘labels’ assigned to us, we watched the video ‘The danger of a single story’ and focused on some key points from the video. Then we ended the session with a forum post on;
- How do you think our ‘assigned’ identities affect the way we speak/behave/live/write?
