Today in class we spent time going over citation and attribution of sources information. We started by looking at Purdue OWL’s MLA 8 citation guidelines, talked about dropped quotes and block quotes, and went over differences between quotations, paraphrasing, summarizing, and common knowledge. We also talked about “indebtedness,” or including sources in our Works Cited or Bibliography that don’t necessarily appear in quoted or summarized form in our papers, but still informed our understanding of the topic. We looked at individual Grassroots articles for examples of each of these citation (or no citation) circumstances, and also discussed preparedness for the annotated bibliography that is due next week!
