Mini-Grants for Fall 2016

Let’s Get Involved: Hunger is Not a Game – Robin Halsey: ENG 101 & ENG 145.13

In the 2016 Fall semester, Robin’s ENG 101 and ENG 145.13 classes worked together with the Midwest Food Bank in a project called “Let’s Get Involved: Hunger is Not a Game”. The goals of the project were “to raise awareness of the problem of hunger in our community and our country by creating promotional messages and by collecting donations of food for a local service organization”. Students used their Mini Grant money to create flyers, brochures and other artifacts that were distributed in the ISU campus. Robin also organized a reception with both classes and a representative from the Midwest Food Bank. The results of the project were remarkable. As Robin’s students wrote in the impact statement, “The success of this project was measured by the many boxes of food we were able to donate to the Midwest Food Bank as a result of the food drives, the check for $1000 from the RSO that represents the money raised through the Turkey Bowl football tournament, and the feedback we received from students, teachers, and staff at ISU who were involved in various aspects of the project”.
