VANESSA GARCIA
2013-14 GWRJournal Scholar

A sophomore double-majoring in Acting and English Education at ISU, Garcia uses her knowledge of sketch comedy to explore the many activities of writing. Drawing on real-life experiences, and featuring performances by Allison Sokolowski, Brian Meslar, and Chris Stevenson, Garcia connects what we can learn about sketch comedy through studying writing from a genre perspective, to what we can learn about writing through the genre of sketch comedy. She demonstrates how sketch comedy is a resource people can use to turn what’s around them into writing worth laughing about.
